Each year on July 21st, I feel especially proud of the multilateral values, cultural identity and warmth that define my country. Living abroad, these roots feel even more meaningful and it is always a joy to reconnect with other Belgian expats. 

I am grateful to the Consulate General of Belgium in New York and the Embassy of Belgium in the United States of America for their invitations to celebrate with fellow Belgians and friends of Belgium in New York City and Washington, D.C. Both the city reception and the garden party offered meaningful conversations, shared memories and a sense of home—even thousands of kilometers away.
